Code of Conduct
Sheth Lalji Dayal Amalgamated Trusts’ — Lilavati Lalji Dayal College of Commerce
Effective date: 1 November 2025
Purpose: This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all members of the college community — students, faculty, staff, visitors, and contractors — to ensure a safe, respectful, and academically honest environment.
1. Scope
This Code applies to all activities on college premises, online platforms and college-affiliated events (on- and off-campus). It covers conduct during academic activities, placements, internships, social events, and any setting where individuals represent the college.
2. Core Principles
All members must:
Treat others with respect, fairness and dignity.
Behave honestly and responsibly.
Protect the safety and well-being of the community.
Uphold academic integrity and the college’s reputation.
3. Expected Conduct — Students
Students are expected to:
Attend classes punctually and participate actively.
Follow instructions of faculty and college staff.
Maintain academic honesty — no cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, or unauthorised collaboration.
Respect college property and the property of others.
Refrain from vandalism, theft, or misuse of facilities.
Use mobile phones and devices respectfully (put on silent during lectures/exams).
Dress appropriately for campus and academic events.
4. Expected Conduct — Faculty & Staff
Faculty and staff must:
Treat students and colleagues impartially and respectfully.
Maintain professional boundaries and avoid conflicts of interest.
Provide fair and timely assessment, feedback and support.
Protect confidential student/staff information.
Model academic integrity and professional ethics.
5. Anti-discrimination & Equal Opportunity
The college is committed to a discrimination-free environment. Discrimination based on caste, religion, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, nationality, or any other protected characteristic is strictly prohibited.
6. Harassment, Bullying & Sexual Misconduct
Harassment, bullying, stalking, or sexual misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated. Complaints will be taken seriously, kept confidential to the extent possible, and investigated promptly.
7. Academic Integrity
Unacceptable practices include (but are not limited to):
Copying or using unauthorized materials in exams/assignments.
Submitting another person’s work as your own (plagiarism).
Falsifying data or academic records.
Assisting others in dishonest practices.
Consequences range from assignment failure to suspension or expulsion, depending on severity.
8. Use of Information Technology
Users must:
Use college IT systems responsibly and lawfully.
Not attempt unauthorised access to systems or accounts.
Respect copyright and licensing for digital materials.
Avoid posting confidential college information.
9. Alcohol, Drugs & Tobacco
Possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs on campus is prohibited. Alcohol may only be allowed at authorised events with prior permission. Smoking is prohibited in all indoor college areas and within designated no-smoking zones.
10. Health, Safety & Campus Security
Follow all health and safety instructions and emergency procedures.
Report hazards, accidents or suspicious behaviour to college security or administration immediately.
Cooperate in emergency drills and safety training.
11. Visitors & External Partners
Visitors and contractors must follow campus rules and behave respectfully. Hosts (students/staff/faculty) are responsible for informing their visitors of relevant college policies.
12. Reporting Concerns
If you experience or witness a breach of this Code:
Report to the relevant authority: Department Head / Student Affairs / Human Resources / Campus Security.
For harassment or sexual misconduct, contact the designated Officer for Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal (contact details below).
Complaints will be handled impartially and confidentially. Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith is prohibited.

13. Investigation & Disciplinary Process
Reports will be acknowledged and assessed promptly.
An investigation will be carried out where required, maintaining confidentiality and fairness.
Interim measures (suspension, no-contact orders) may be placed during investigations.
Outcomes may include warning, remedial training, suspension, expulsion, termination, or legal action depending on findings.
14. Appeals
Individuals subject to disciplinary action will have the right to appeal in line with the college’s appeals procedure. Appeal timelines and steps will be communicated with the decision.
15. Record Keeping & Confidentiality
Records of complaints and disciplinary actions will be kept securely and only shared on a need-to-know basis, in compliance with legal requirements.
16. Responsibilities of Leadership
College leadership will:
- Ensure fair enforcement of this Code.
- Provide training on respectful behaviour, anti-harassment, and academic integrity.
- Regularly review and update policies to reflect legal obligations and community needs.
17. Review of the Code
This Code is reviewed annually (or sooner if required). Amendments will be approved by college management and communicated to the community.

If it’s harassment/sexual misconduct → contact Grievance Officer or Student Affairs.
For academic integrity issues → contact the course instructor and Head of Department.

19. Declaration
By studying or working at Sheth Lalji Dayal Amalgamated Trusts’ — Lilavati Lalji Dayal College of Commerce, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and cooperate with any related procedures.
